Morena militants elected their new leadership at the Extraordinary National Congress held in Mexico City, in which Luisa María Alcalde Luján was elected president and Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of the president of the Republic, as secretary of the Organization.
The current Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde, will be the one to lead the Morena political party after there were no other Morena supporters who registered in the race for the party’s presidency.
Meanwhile, Citlali Hernández’s replacement as general secretary will be Carolina Rangel Gracida, who was head of the Welfare Secretariat of the government of Michoacán.
Another prominent name in the renewal of the National Executive Committee is Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of President López Obrador, who will be in charge of the Organization Secretariat.
The aspirations of the president’s son were supported by various figures from Morena such as the now former general secretary Citlali Hernández; the governor of Zacatecas, David Monreal; Senator Higio Martínez and even his own father.
“My son José Ramón, according to what I have been told, is not going to work in the Government; my other son Gonzalo, neither; however, my son Andrés is going to participate in Morena, he wants to help consolidate the movement,” President Lopez Obrador declared on September 9.
