Zoé Robledo, director of the Mexican Social Security Institute, insists that Mexico has a better health system than Denmark.
Zoé Robledo explains why (according to him) Mexico has a better health system than Denmark.
Zoé Robledo, director of the Mexican Social Security Institute, presented his report Pulse of Health where he explained why Mexico, after the implementation of the IMSS-Bienestar program, has a better health system than Denmark.
“There has been an interesting debate about this because we have argued that it is a better and better model than Denmark’s and it is important to talk about this first because we believe that it should be public rather than private (…) there are those who believe that it should be privatized, that is why we believe that it should be public than private, the trend in the world has been to privatize what should be guaranteed by the states,” he stated.
Robledo stressed that the IMSS-Bienestar program tends to be universal because the catalog of services is the same in the 32 states, that is, “in each of the 32 states, a beneficiary will find the same care and service if he or she is treated in any of them.”
He also explained that the health program is better because it is free rather than contributory, while in terms of care, it is better if it is preventive than curative.
Of course, millions of Mexican citizens can tell tales of horror while being under medical treatment at the IMSS. Most people have to wait months to get an appointment at the IMSS, which is why they rather go to a private doctor. So, it is clear that Zoe Robledo is just saying that to support the statements of President Lopez Obrador.
