The Directorate of Identity and Culture of the City Council of Mérida inaugurated the exhibition “The Building of the Former Railway Station”, as part of the “Piece of the Month” program of the Museum of the City of Mérida.

Karla Berrón Cámara, director of Identity and Culture, said that the purpose of the Piece of the Month program is to bring people closer to the treasures that the city protects and that have been a part of its history and cultural identity.

“The City Museum is a valuable space in the future of Mérida and in that sense, it is important to invite the community to get to know the museum, but also to get to know the piece of the month that specialists repeatedly make available so that people know our history and our identity elements that in some way make up what defines us,” Karla Berrón Cámara said.

For his part, Jose Manuel Silveyra, head of museums at the Mérida City Council, explained why they chose the Former Railway Station Building as Piece of the Month.

“We chose it because it marks 104 years since its inauguration, which was on September 15, 1920, the piece of the month is to take something from our collection to remind people of important events that have marked our history and identity.” The exhibition will be available at the city museum for 20 days, starting September 27.
