The inhabitants of the port of El Cuyo carried out an emotional procession in honor of “La Virgen de la Merced” the Virgin of Mercy, the patron saint of this beautiful beach destination. During the tour, the deep faith and devotion of the community could be appreciated.

Every year, the inhabitants of the port honored the venerated image of the Virgin of Mercy with a procession that left the church in the center of town and headed towards the sheltered port.

The parishioners accompanied the effigy of the Lady of Mercy, also known by this name, to the beat of mariachi music and another Mexican musical band, who alternated their melodies to liven up this emotional celebration.

Traditionally, upon reaching this point, the image is placed in a boat, where it is guarded by the faithful and taken on a pleasant journey through the open sea, followed by numerous boats that accompany it to a specific place, where a floral offering is made. However, due to the sea conditions, which presented rough waves, and following the recommendations of the Harbor Master, this year the image was only paraded through the waters of the sheltered port.

The mayor of Tizimín, Adrián Quiroz Osorio, was present during the entire activity, accompanied by the queen of the festivities, Miss Leslie Velázquez Hernández and the director of Tourism, Gabriel Aguiñaga Medina. Together with the warm community, they returned the image to its original niche to make way for a solemn mass.
