September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Tren Maya joined this cause by giving access to children with this disease, beneficiaries of the Mexican Association for Aid to Children with Cancer (Amanc) Yucatán, to visit the stations of Teya (Kanasín) and Valladolid.

General Lozano Águila, director of the Tren Maya welcomed the children with an emotional speech where he stressed the importance of transporting the most valuable thing in Mexico.

“I am super excited, I am happy to know that the Maya Train has the opportunity to serve those who are the most important: in this country, our boys and girls,” he said.

The General gave the children golden tickets in commemoration of the fight against childhood cancer.

Walter Mena González, coordinator of the Amanc Pact reported that this trip took place on train 303 D002, where the beneficiaries of the civil organization, along with their families and collaborators, enjoyed the amenities offered, such as a healthy lunch, entertainment, and the opportunity to take souvenir photos.

“For AMANC, the support of companies such as the Maya Train, together with the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), is of utmost importance to promote awareness of childhood cancer in the community,” said Marissa Goff Rodríguez, president of Amanc.

She added that with this type of action, the Maya Train and Amanc demonstrate that the fight against childhood cancer is a cause that unites everyone.

The Mexican Association for Aid to Children with Cancer, IAP (Amanc) is the first institution in the country to provide comprehensive support to girls, boys, and adolescents during their oncological treatments.

Founded in 1982 by María de Guadalupe Alejandre, who established the goal of helping all families who suffered in silence from the illness of their children. For this reason, she took on the task of forming an organization that contributes to improving the quality of life of patients with childhood cancer.

The Association has a national presence, through state Amanc, where the comprehensive support model is replicated.

Amanc Yucatán currently serves 446 children diagnosed with cancer from Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and other states, with an average age of 5 to 8 years. In the first half of 2024, care for children from Belize increased by about 20%.
