June left Yucatan hotels with an occupancy rate of 46%, which represented 4 points less than the same month last year, showing an increase in visitors to the beach.
The president of the Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatán, A.C. (AMHY), Juan José Martín Pacheco, specified that in the case of Mérida, statistics show an occupancy of 49% and 27% outside the capital.
Although the figure is considered positive, he explained, it represented a 4% decrease in the general average of Yucatán, Mérida, and other Yucatecan cities.
The business leader noted that, in particular, after the state capital, the beaches were the destination with the highest demand for overnight stays, reaching 32%, followed by Izamal at 30.42%, Valladolid at 26.62%, and Chichén Itzá with 8.65%.
They based the statistics on data from 5,621 rooms in 91 hotels in the state, of which 4,914 are from 66 lodging centers in Mérida and 707 rooms from 25 hotels in Mérida.
Martín Pacheco stressed that the sixth month of 2024 was similar to the previous one, May, with 46%, which reflects that tourist activity has remained stable, providing confidence to have the following two months, July and August, with better occupancy by the Summer Vacation.
The leader of the hoteliers in the state added that Yucatán and its main destinations, such as the Pueblos Mágicos, archaeological zones, colonial cities, beaches, and ecotourism places, are prepared to face the summer vacation season, which is the strongest in all year.
Juan José Martín Pacheco pointed out that the first half of 2024 has been acceptable for the Yucatan hotel sector. However, in the last six months, they expect higher figures, which would help to have a better closing than the one they had in 2023.
