According to information from the Yucatan Ministry of Education (Segey), more than 500,000 Basic and Upper Secondary Education students began the 2024-2025 school year with renewed enthusiasm.
The official opening ceremony took place at the “Solidaridad” Primary School in the Fidel Velázquez subdivision, Mérida. This year, the ceremony included the performance of the renewed version of the Yucatán Anthem for the first time in public schools.
State and federal authorities, including Liborio Vidal Aguilar, the head of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatán (Segey), led the ceremony.
The author of the anthem, teacher Luis Pérez Sabido, attended the event, and members of the team of translators into the Mayan language, such as Elisa Chavarrea Chim and Edgar Chan Uc. The choir of 25 students from the “Nicolás Bravo” Primary School performed the anthem under the direction of teacher Cristina Woodward Campos.
During the event, 755 pieces of furniture were delivered, including chairs, trapezoidal tables, and tables for teachers, benefiting five educational establishments in Mérida. Carlos Puga Bolio, representing the federal Ministry of Public Education (SEP), praised the collaboration between the SEP and Segey, highlighting the significant investment in school rehabilitation.
