“The joint work between the Merida City Council and civil society resulted in the construction of a public space that strengthens the social fabric and promotes neighborhood coexistence”, said Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro at the delivery of the Villas Zona Dorada park.
“Thanks to the Design Your City program, which added teamwork between municipal authorities and citizens, it was evident that the trust placed in the City Council, allowed this space to be transformed from a vacant lot to a park that will benefit this area,” he said.
Accompanied by the residents of Villas Zona Dorada, Ruz Castro said that this park is part of the 19 projects that benefited from the “Design Your City” program, with which civil society was empowered so that as a community they could decide on the urban elements that meet their needs.
He recalled that the “Design Your City” contest has allowed the people of Mérida to choose the sites where the City Council intervenes through public works that meet the needs of families, privileging the creation of decent public spaces that generate civic peace and greater opportunities for social development.
After touring the park, the Mayor highlighted that through citizen participation and consensus, this new space has areas for the enjoyment of families with areas to walk pets:
