The Mayan god Chaac statue arrived on Thursday, August 15 in the night at the Telchac dock, wrapped between tarps and on a trailer.
Videos and pictures of the transportation of the sculpture went viral on social media. The movement to place it attracted the eyes of numerous curious people in this port.
The statue of the Mayan god seeks to compete with the image of Poseidon, installed in the sea of Progreso and which became even more popular after the passage of the storm Beryl.
The statue will be unveiled on Friday the 16th at 7 p.m. They will also unveil a plaque. That same Friday morning, the image appeared covered with a black blanket waiting for the night ceremony.
The Chaac statue measures about 5 meters high – a height similar to the sculpture of Poseidon, which weighs 3 tons –. It is made of fiberglass by local artisans. It is on the dock of this community.
On social media, many users commented as a joke that with the installation of this statue, the battle of the gods will begin.
