On the morning of Wednesday, July 31, the Mérida police and the state police got a call about a person who died inside a hotel at 61st and 68th Street in downtown Mérida.
The person, a foreigner, had stayed at the hotel since June.
Shortly after 11 in the morning, hotel staffers entered the man’s room, where they found him lying on the floor, so they immediately asked the Mérida municipal police for help.
The paramedics arrived and began to give first aid to the man. According to the information from the hotel staff, on the same day of his death, it was the man’s birthday. He had just turned 69 years old. After several minutes, the paramedics indicated that the man died of pathological causes, as he suffered from liver disease.
Local authorities had not revealed the identity or nationality of the deceased.
