Yucatecan UADY graduate recognized with prestigious Fulbright-García Robles Scholarship

Gerardo Luna Sánchez, a graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching from the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), is one of the 91 Mexican scholarship recipients recognized with the prestigious Fulbright-García Robles Scholarship awarded by the Mexico-United States Commission for Exchange Educational and Cultural (Comexus).

As a result of the above, Luna Sánchez will travel to the USA to spend a year in the “Language Teaching Assistant” program starting in August of the current year at Lycoming College Pennsylvania.

In an interview, the UADY graduate highlighted that studying at an international institution represents a great opportunity to deepen knowledge and diversity, in addition to sharing experiences and learning with new colleagues and in other academic centers to create from there new realities and a different and better world.

“I was able to get into the program and in the institution that I wanted, I am very excited about the activities that I will do, but also about meeting people who come from all over the world, with all kinds of experiences, I think that is one of the things that The more they are going to enrich this period,” he assured.

Regarding Lycoming College Pennsylvania, the scholarship recipient said that this university has a lot to offer, especially the program he will attend because “I am excited to teach what I know about my culture and knowledge, but also to be able to bring the acquired knowledge back to Mexico.”.

Among the activities that he will carry out during his stay, he detailed that he will serve as a Spanish language assistant and teach it to American students by participating in conversation clubs and discussion tables, as well as coordinating events to share Mexican culture.

The UADY graduate said he is feeling very happy, and excited, but at the same time proud.

“I will represent my community first, I am from Dzemul, and realizing what I have achieved makes me feel very satisfied and I know that I also represent my alma mater.”, UADY, and for that reason, I will do a good job,” Gerardo Luna Sánchez concluded.
