Agents from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrested a 15-year-old teenager on Saturday, July 6, when he was escaping after injuring the driver of a ride-hailing vehicle with a knife.

The events occurred shortly before noon in the Jacinto Canek neighborhood, west of Mérida.

According to the first investigations, the young J.Y.R.M., from Tabasco and living in this city approximately a month ago, boarded the car (with Quintana Roo license plates) at the downtown bus terminal and asked to be taken to that neighborhood.

When the driver parked on 124-C Street at the request of the passenger, he attacked him from behind, wounding him in the left lung with a knife.

The state police’s 911 emergency number received three calls from people who noticed the event and provided the characteristics of the young suspect.

With this information, the sector patrols were immediately alerted, which resulted in the prompt arrest of the alleged aggressor, who told the police that he intended to steal money from the driver.

The SSP agents transferred the detainee to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
