The potential of small and medium-sized businesses in Mérida needs to be strengthened
(Mérida, Yucatán, July 14, 2024).- “The Mérida City Council is an ally of entrepreneurial citizens, therefore, it maintains its commitment to providing the necessary tools to help them formalize their micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) because they are development engines for the city”, said Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro.
“We, as a responsible authority, trust micro-entrepreneurs, and we know that it is not easy to start on the path of business, that is why we advise them and help them to formalize their activity so that they grow in the business field,” indicated the municipal president.
Ruz Castro highlighted that the importance of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses lies in their economic and social contribution to the promotion and development of the municipality and the state, in addition to being important generators of employment.
In addition, he added that another benefit that SMEs contribute to the economy is that they tend to hire a greater proportion of people belonging to groups with fewer opportunities to find employment, such as young people, older workers, and workers in training.
Ruz Castro indicated that for a decade the City Council has supported SMEs to prosper, providing them with training at all levels, supporting their business initiative, and fostering an environment conducive to their development through a support network that helps them in their development.
As part of this range of support, the Mayor mentioned that the Commune has the Business Assistance Center (CAE), to assist anyone and everyone who wants to open or formalize their company.
He reported that the CAE operates the “Rapid Business Opening System (SARE),” a program that simplifies and reduces to three business days the actual times for obtaining an administrative resolution in response to the application for a Business Use License. Land and Municipal Operating License.
“This procedure only applies to the opening or formalization before the Mérida City Council of companies of up to 100 square meters (m2) and belonging to the low-impact Catalog of the current Urban Development Program,” explained the Municipal President.
