The generosity and altruism of a Yucatecan family together with the professionalism, talent, and vocation of doctors in the state allowed 2 female patients, one from Yucatán and the other from Campeche, to have a new chance at life by receiving two kidney transplants, one of those procedures carried out at the General Hospital “Dr. Agustín O’Horán” of this city.
The director of the hospital, Marco Antonio Cetina Cámara, highlighted that this work is the result of the effort of the State Government through the Transplant Council of the State of Yucatan (CEETRY), to support these actions in favor of the lives of patients. that require the transplant of an organ.
On this occasion, the procurement was carried out at the O’Horán Hospital with the participation of the transplant specialist Camilo Aguirre Sánchez, who procured the kidneys, supported by the Donation Coordinator of the same medical center, Rudy Pacheco Castro, who procured two corneas that will soon benefit patients in the region.
In this regard, Cetina Cámara explained that at the O’Horán Hospital, the kidney procedure was performed on a Yucatecan patient around 50 years old. In contrast, the other patient was referred to the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in this capital.
The state official explained that in the procurement carried out at the medical facility, another patient also benefited from a liver procedure, whose organ was sent to Mexico City, and a donation of bone tissue was obtained that will later help a significant number of people. , determining after this procedure that it is carried out as a result of a collaboration agreement with the University of Nuevo León.
Cetina Cámara added that since the beginning of the present state administration, the procedures for transplants in this hospital have made notable progress, ranging from the procurement of organs to the organization having trained health professionals to execute the processes, making the hospital highly decisive in the matter.
The director recognized the work and effort of the hospital’s Transplant Committee, as well as the participants, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, laboratory staff, social workers, and all those who contributed and whose efforts culminated in these two transplants for patients who were on the waiting list.
The state official stressed that the work of the State Transplant Center (CEETRY), promoted by the State Government, has been decisive in promoting the procurement of organs and transplants of cadaveric patients, highlighting the results obtained by Yucatán in this area.
In 2023 alone, the state performed 76 kidney transplants. In that sense, the state government maintains continuity to promote the culture of organ and tissue donation, recognizing the generosity of those families who have decided to donate the organs or tissues of their loved ones to save lives, the manager pointed out.
