Without considering the consequences, a young man threw himself into the sea of Progreso when the waves were still showing the effects of the storm “Beryl” to take a photograph next to the sculpture of Poseidon.

As is known, this statue has attracted both local and national attention, becoming the subject of memes and jokes through social media due to its supposed effect on the rains in Yucatan.

Even the threat of the storm “Beryl” as a hurricane to Yucatán had unleashed several theories, most of them as a joke, about the revenge of the Mayan god Chaac (belonging to rain and thunder) for the decision to put a Greek god in front of to Progreso beach, one of the most important ports for industry and tourism in the state.

The furor over the path of “Beryl” in Yucatán as a storm, which left no severe damage, caused several locals and tourists to gather before the controversial statue to take a photo or video and share it on social media.

However, the so-called party with Poseidon could have turned into a tragedy since visitors recorded how a young man decided to risk his life and enter the sea, even when it had strong waves.

Although the waves hit the young man hard, he did not lose the desire to stand near Poseidon to take a photograph that could be uploaded to social networks, an action criticized by Internet users and branded as irresponsible since many remember that the sea can be treacherous and thus, waves could have easily swept the man away out to sea.

It is unknown if any authority was alerted about the incident, which, fortunately, did not escalate.
