The federal government integrated Yucatán into its ambitious Development Poles for Well-being project (Polos del Desarrollo del Bienestar).

The federal government integrated two industrial centers located in the state of Yucatán into its ambitious project of the Development Poles for Well-being. This initiative, which is part of the broader plan for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, seeks to stimulate investment and industrial growth in Southeast Mexico.

According to information recently published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), through decree 778/2024, as well as by the state of Yucatán, the Federal Government authorized the creation of two Industrial Welfare Poles in Yucatán: Progreso 1 and Mérida 1.

These poles are added to the 10 already existing in the Interoceanic Corridor, establishing a strategic connection between this project, the Mayan Train, and the expansion of the Port of Progreso.

The importance of these new hubs lies in their ability to attract investments in eleven key industrial sectors, including the electrical and electronics industry, semiconductors, automotive (with an emphasis on electromobility and auto parts), medical devices, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, clean energy, machinery and equipment, information and communication technologies, metals and petrochemicals.

To encourage the participation of the private sector, the federal government announced a series of attractive fiscal stimuli for companies that decide to establish themselves in these poles. Among the most notable benefits are accelerated depreciation during the first six years, allowing companies to more quickly recover their investments in fixed and deferred assets.

It also stipulated the exemption from Value Added Tax (VAT) in transactions within and between the poles during the first four years, as well as the total exemption from Income Tax (ISR) during the first three years, with the possibility of being extended for three additional years, offering a reduction of up to 90 percent depending on variables such as job creation.

For its part, the Government of the State of Yucatán complemented these federal incentives with additional benefits, such as a 100 percent exemption on the schedular tax on income from business activities during the first four years, followed by a 50 percent reduction. cent in subsequent years.

In addition to these incentives, the Yucatecan government announced the donation of 110 hectares to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) for the development of a multimodal Mayan Train park. This project will include the construction of a multimodal station by Sedena in the Technological Pole of Progreso, connected by a branch of the Mayan Train.
