A woman suffered an almost tragic accident while driving through the School of Medicine because as she passed through the street behind it, the branch of a large 90-year-old tree fell on her vehicle.

The incident took place on Thursday, June 27 at the intersection of 84-A Street between 59 and 59-A in the center of Mérida, a few meters from the Centenario Zoo.

According to witnesses, the woman was driving her Dodge Attitude on that street. Still, at one point the large ceibo tree collapsed, according to the caretaker of the house.

During the fall, one of the branches hit the car, and another collapsed the fence of a house located in the area and caused some cables also to fall. After the accident, the woman saw sparks from the cables, so she stayed inside her car and called the emergency number to request help.

Moments later, firefighters from the Ministry of Public Security arrived to help the affected woman, so they managed to cut the power so that the driver could get out of the vehicle.

Once safe, the woman called her insurer to pay for the damage caused to the Attitude. Later rescuers got to work to free the street and are currently carrying out the corresponding work.

The tree was inside a house located on the property of a foreign couple, whose caretaker put up an improvised fence since the tree collapsed the one he had. He mentioned that the tree was approximately 90 years old.
