Several neighborhoods in Chetumal were left without electricity for hours, due to the heavy rains recorded on Tuesday, June 11. But in some rural areas of Othón P. Blanco, the service has not been reestablished yet.
Since five in the morning and due to the strong winds and rain, at least 14 neighborhoods in the state capital reported some kind of interruptions in the electricity service.
Most of the affected areas include part of the northern area of the city: Bosque colonies, Adolfo López Mateos, Solidaridad, Caribe, Fraccionamiento Las Américas, Pro territorio, Payo Obispo, Italia, Centro, and Barrio Bravo, according to reports from citizens on social networks.
In some cases, the electricity service returned after a few minutes, according to personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission. But the power lines were affected in others,so the power flow suffered from variable loads, causing intermittent blackouts.
Several users complained that this situation caused damage to their electrical appliances, some of which were recorded as a total loss.
By noon the distribution of electricity in the city had already returned to normal, but in rural areas failures were still reported. Meanwhile, some neighborhoods in the state capital continued to have problems with digital services such as the Internet.
