100 people have presented health problems due to the intense heat in Yucatan

A total of 100 people have presented health problems due to the intense heat in Yucatan.

This figure is 426.32 percent higher than last year when at the same time (May 28), only 19 people were affected by high temperatures, reported the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the federal Ministry of Health.

There have been 80 cases of heat stroke, 19 of dehydration, and one of burns.

With this data, the state is ranked fifth nationally among the states with the highest number of people affected by Extreme Natural Temperatures (TNE), according to the federal agency.

As we have reported, high temperatures due to heat waves affect the Yucatecan population with maximum records above 40 degrees Celsius for 31 consecutive days, setting a record. The thermal sensation has remained close to 55 degrees during this period and there are even days when it was exceeded. This has resulted in an impact on the health of the inhabitants of the state.

So far, there are no reports of deaths due to extreme heat-related illnesses in Yucatan.

As of the date mentioned, corresponding to epidemiological week 21, the first place of those affected by Extreme Natural Temperatures (TNE) is occupied by Tabasco, with 230 cases. It is followed by Veracruz with 165; Nuevo León, with 162; Tamaulipas, with 130; and Yucatan, with 100.

In the current heat season, scheduled from March 17 to October 5 of this year, the country has accumulated 1,346 cases and 61 deaths nationwide (Veracruz (16), Tabasco (11), San Luis Potosí (9), Tamaulipas (9), Hidalgo (4), Nuevo León (4), Oaxaca (4), Campeche (1), Chiapas (1), Guanajuato (1) and Sonora (1) which corresponds to a fatality rate of 4.52 percent.

In epidemiological week 21, 390 cases associated with extreme natural temperatures and 13 deaths have been reported nationwide.
