The Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY) maintains prevention efforts against the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, so from April 29 to May 3, it will implement a series of actions in neighborhoods of Mérida, as well as in municipalities and police stations in the east of the state.
The director of Prevention and Health Protection of the SSY, Carlos Isaac Hernández Fuentes, reported that so far this year, larval control activities have been carried out throughout the state in 165,369 homes, fogging an area of 10,601 hectares and fumigating 3,041 homes.
Regarding the activities to be carried out this week, Hernández Fuentes indicated that the fogging activities with fumigation vehicles began on Monday, April 29 in the city of Mérida, where the colonies, Xoclán Xbech and Xoclán Carmelitas, as well as the Juan Pablo II, Mulsay and Bosques de Mulsay subdivisions.
The official added that on Tuesday the 30th, coverage was provided in the Melchor Ocampo, Nueva Mayapán, Los Reyes, Manuel Ávila Camacho, Mayapán, Lourdes Industrial, Villa Fontana, Chuminópolis and Waspa neighborhoods, as well as the Carmen subdivision.
On Thursday the 2nd, the Lázaro Cárdenas, Wallis, Pacabtún, Fidel Velázquez, Nueva Chichén, Benito Juárez Oriente, Emilio Portes Gil, and Chichén Itzá neighborhoods will be attended to, as well as the Park Subdivision
On Friday the 3rd we will work on Cortés Sarmiento, Emilio Portes Gil, Jardines de Miraflores, Azcorra, Miraflores, San José Vergel, and Vergel II.
The municipalities in the east of the state will have the following coverage: Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th the municipal seat of Valladolid, while the municipal seat of Tizimín on April 29 and 30 and May 2 and 3. In the Valladolid police stations of Xocén on May 2 and Popolá on May 3.
Hernández Fuentes emphasized the importance of citizen collaboration to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and prevent the spread of diseases. He emphasized keeping doors and windows open during fumigation, using repellents and insecticides, as well as protecting windows with crinolines.
The state official highlighted that fumigation actions are based on fieldwork, supported by the distribution and monitoring obtained from the Ovittraps and the Epidemiological Surveillance Department, to optimize the use of the insecticide.
