More than a month after a Yucatan district judge ordered the inspection of the works of the Mayan Train section 5 South, the Quintana Roo courts have not complied with the requirement.

Patricia Godínez, the complainant in the indirect protection trial 1003/2022, said that the District Judge of Mérida’s verification order as urgent has not been finalized.

On March 10, the First District Court of Yucatán ordered the federal courts of Quintana Roo to conduct a judicial inspection of the works of the Mayan Train section 5 South, where environmentalists have pointed out the filling of cenotes.

In an agreement issued within file 1003/2022 of indirect protection, the order issued by the federal judge of Yucatán to his counterparts in Quintana Roo is read.

Patricia Godínez reiterated that section 5 South runs from Playa del Carmen to Tulum, for around 65 kilometers, crossing the line of the most important underground rivers in the world.

This request for protection was processed by citizens of Playa del Carmen, by the members of the environmental association Moce Yax Cuxtal.

Godínez also said that Profepa recognizes that there is serious environmental damage to the caves, which is why they are planning more means of challenge, such as those they have presented in recent months in favor of the defense of a healthy environment.
