A serious accident occurred this Sunday, May 26th, on the Mérida-Progreso highway, where a car collided with a pole, knocked it down, and then overturned and caught fire.
Luckily, witnesses to the events rescued the motorist, who was left in the hands of paramedics who took him to a hospital in Mérida.
The accident occurred when the vehicle was driving towards the port, and suddenly, when it was between the Paraíso and San Ignacio police stations, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and went to the left at full speed.
The car crashed into a metal lighting pole, which was knocked down, and when it fell into the lane dividing space, it overturned dramatically, leaving all four tires in the air, starting to catch fire.
Other drivers who saw everything got out of their cars and went to help the man in control of the damaged vehicle, rescued him as well as many of his belongings, and handed him over to paramedics who arrived after the 911 call.
The injured person was taken to a hospital, and firefighters were in charge of putting out the flames in the unit, as well as the nearby grass that also burned. Police officers took note and then left the incident in the hands of the National Guard.
