Unknown individuals set fire to the campaign van of Hugo Juárez, candidate for mayor of Cd. del Carmen, Campeche.

As previously published in The Yucatan Times, twelve palapas were “accidentally” set on fire, right in the middle of Campeche’s Malecón. Many citizens of this formerly peaceful state (who asked to remain anonumous), claim that the palapas were set on fire because they refused to pay protection fee to organized crime groups that plague Campeche ever since Layda Sansores and the Morena political party took office.

Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.- Hugo Juárez said he would not be intimidated and that these attacks were a consequence of the fact that “His campaign is moving forward and well”.

“This is not the first time they have tried to intimidate me and my family, my property, and now our campaign,” denounced Hugo Juárez, candidate for mayor of this important coastal city for the Movimiento Ciudadano political party.

“This is a clear sign, those in the opposition are worried and nervous, and they do not know what to do to continue staying in power,” Juarez declared, referring to Morena. The only recourse they have left is violence.

The local authorities stated that the fire registered in the candidate’s van was an “accident.”
