Yalitza Aparicio Martínez is a Mexican actress and preschool teacher. She gained international recognition in 2018 for her acting debut in the film “Roma”. Time magazine ranked her as “the best performance of 2018.” In 2019, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
On May 29th, Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio was invited to participate as a narrator in the documentary about Las Amazonas de Yaxunah, a Yucatecan indigenous group of softball players that has broken stereotypes nationwide.
The film will tell the story of these Yucatecan women who have fought against the rejection of their families for practicing a sport because their community requires them to be housewives.
The documentary was directed by filmmaker Alfonso Algara and will debut on the platforms of a sports channel during Hispanic Heritage Month, which in the United States runs from September 15 to October 15.
