The Ecology Department of Progreso and the Ecological Police released recommendations to pet owners to avoid heat stroke in their animals due to the high temperatures that have been occurring in the entity in recent weeks.
According to both municipal agencies, the risk of pets suffering from heat stroke and gastrointestinal diseases has been increasing, which is why they made a careful call to the community to apply various preventive measures such as giving domestic animals fresh water and Constant cleaning, regular weekly baths, ventilated spaces and constantly checking them to rule out anomalies.
The commander of the Ecological Police, Obdulio Mena Sánchez, reported: “In this administration, we are very attentive to our four-legged companions; If the heat is suffocating for a human being in this season of high temperatures, it is worse for animals because they depend on their owners, which is why we offer our relevant telephone numbers for any questions.”
The symptoms of heat stroke in canines and felines are muscle tremors, fatigue, abundant saliva, as well as heart rate and accelerated breathing.
It is also recommended that the food is in perfect condition and not left outdoors for too long, as it could decompose due to the heat, which causes severe gastrointestinal problems in pets. The ecology sub-directorate indicated that it is important to provide pets with a space where they can protect themselves from the sun and have fresh air to be calm, pointing out that actions such as having them on roofs without adequate places or tied up under the sun are considered as animal abuse, which can be sanctioned if the situation in which the animal is found is proven.
