Dante Emiliano, a 12-year-old boy, dies after a shooting in Tabasco

“I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die!”, screams Dante Emiliano, a 12-year-old boy who died after receiving several gunshot wounds in Paraíso, Tabasco.

Carlos Castillejos, spokesman for the Tabasco government, confirmed the death of the child.

“About the death of the teenager shot yesterday, in the municipality of Paraíso, it is reported that high-level personnel from the Tabasco police are in the place and are following several lines of investigation,” Castillejos wrote in his X account.

Dante Emiliano was attacked on May 21, on the street and in broad daylight. In a video that went viral on social networks, the minor is seen trying to be helped by some people. He covers the wound and screams that he is short of breath.

The teenager was at his grandmother’s house, located on 8 de Octubre and 5 de Mayo streets. In the afternoon he left the home and a witness interviewed by the media said that some men tried to kidnap Dante, so when he resisted. Then, one of the men shot him.

The minor was helped by the Municipal Police. Later the paramedics took him to the hospital where he died.

After the events, the Paraíso city council requested to improve the security strategy to safeguard the lives of citizens.

“There is information obtained through video recordings and testimonies with which the investigations can advance. In addition, other important evidence has been obtained that, in the same way, is under analysis to integrate it into the investigation folder initiated for the crime of homicide,” the State Prosecutor’s Office reported in a statement.
