The Colonos de Sisal and Unidos por Sisal associations denounce that the construction company in charge of the construction of Villas María removed the closure seals, even though the work was suspended by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

“In addition to not meeting the requirements to have a construction license, impacting 100 percent of the land, building in an area of single-family projects, and invading a federal zone, the developers of Villas María are building at a very fast pace, working even at night,” denounced Guillermo Acosta Simón, representative of the Colonos de Sisal association.

The construction of buildings in these Sisal areas is prohibited, he explains, and 60 percent of the land surface must be preserved as green areas, as well as 30 meters of coastal dunes inland.

Remember that the Villas María project, in the port of Sisal, Yucatán, was closed in mid-April, following a request from the community of this port, which warned about the ecological damage caused by this development to the local flora and fauna. “If construction continues, there is an imminent risk of causing an ecocide of irreversible proportions, with devastating consequences for the local ecosystem,” he warns.
