Mérida: a comprehensive World-Class tourist destination
To promote Mérida as a comprehensive tourist destination, which encompasses gastronomic and cultural aspects, as well as congresses and conventions, Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro is participating in the 48th edition of the Tianguis Turístico de México, which is celebrated from the 8th to the 12th. of this month in this port.
Ruz Castro highlighted the relevance of this tourism fair as a significant space at the national level for the generation of new tourism initiatives and the consolidation of strategies that, through tourism, benefit the residents of Mérida and Yucatán in general. He also highlighted the opportunity to establish relationships with various countries to promote and position Mérida as a tourist destination internationally.
Accompanied by the director of Economic Development and Tourism, José Luis Martínez Semerena, and the deputy director of Tourism, Esmeralda Ríos Cárdenas, the delegation will participate in several business meetings, work tables, and strategic alliances, to consolidate Mérida as a first-class city for tourists and visitors from all over the world.
On the first day of activities, the Mayor was present at the opening ceremony of the Mexican Tourist Tianguis, which brings together 1,941 exhibitors from 930 companies from all entities in the country, as well as 1,162 buyers, 682 participating companies, and representatives of 41 countries. During this meeting, Ruz Castro held a meeting with the president of the Coparmex National Tourism Commission, Héctor Flores Santana.
During the meeting, new tourism promotion strategies aimed at attracting international tourism were discussed, to maximize the promotion of Mérida as a destination. In addition, it was agreed to collaborate with Coparmex Mérida to develop an agenda and establish strategic pillars based on five key areas: tourism development and promotion projects, crisis management, sector competitiveness, sustainability, and strengthening of the sector.
As part of his agenda, Ruz Castro attended the ribbon cutting and inaugural tour of the exhibition. Then he paid a visit to the Yucatán pavilion, run by the Tourism Development Secretariat.
