Two female patients aged 48 and 23 will have access to a better quality of life, after the generosity of a family from the east of the state and the promotion of the culture of organ donation, specialists from the General Hospital “Dr. Agustín O’Horán” performed a simultaneous kidney transplant, which marked a milestone in the history of this hospital.

In this regard, the Director of that Hospital Center, Marco Antonio Cetina Cámara, announced that this is the first time that this procedure is carried out at the O’Horán hospital, where both kidneys are transplanted from the same donor.

Cetina Cámara added that, since the beginning of the current administration, the procedures for transplants in this facility have made notable progress, ranging from the procurement of organs, the organization’s trained health professionals to execute the processes and, above all, The sum of these efforts makes the hospital highly decisive in the matter.

The state official highlighted the timely coordination of health professionals from the San Carlos de Tizimín Hospital with the O’Horán specialists belonging to the Transplant Committee; this effort culminated in two simultaneous transplants for the patients who were on the waiting list.

He stressed that the work carried out by the State Transplant Council of the State of Yucatán (CEETRY), which is promoted by the Government of the State of Yucatán, has been decisive in promoting the procurement of organs and transplants from cadaveric patients in which Yucatán has had outstanding results. results in the matter.

In 2023 alone, the state performed 76 kidney transplants. In this sense, the state government maintains continuity to promote the culture of organ and tissue donation and recognizes the generosity of those families who have decided to donate organs. or tissues of their loved ones saving lives.

Finally, Cetina Cámara recognized the health professionals who gave their best effort to make it possible to comprehensively care for patients, intensivists, anesthesiologists, laboratory personnel, nurses, social work, and the members of the CEETRY.
