After completing a rigorous training and selection program, three Yucatecan students, José Antonio Bernal Massa, Víctor Gerardo Vázquez Basto, and Dana Karen Medina González, have been chosen to represent Mexico in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) 2024, which will take place held in Lucknow, India, in July.
This achievement has been possible thanks to the support of the Secretariat of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatán (Segey) and the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), who have established an agreement to organize activities at the state level and provide follow-up to the winners in its subsequent development, including national courses.
The three aforementioned students began by participating in the State Mathematics Olympiad Competition in February 2023, where they competed with another 14,000 primary and secondary school students from across the state of Yucatán.
The IMC 2024 is considered the most important international competition in the field of mathematics for basic level students, with the participation of 8 primary school students and 8 high school students from all over Mexico.
In the case of the Yucatecan students, Bernal Massa is in sixth grade at the Primary School of the Montreal School, Vázquez Basto is also in the sixth grade at the Ricardo López Méndez Primary School, while Medina González is in the third year of secondary school at the Peninsular Libanés School. All of them have received awards for their outstanding performance during the current school year.
