The plots or family gardens are being lost in the State of Yucatan, and with it many native varieties such as Choch, Camino, Ciricote and other local products of the land, which were consumed and part of local traditions.

Camila Hurtado Torres, teacher of the Bachelor’s Degree in Agroecology at UADY, is part of the organizers of the 11th. Seed Festival that takes place every year in this city, she added that, precisely one of the objectives of this event is to try to rescue and preserve these customs, especially the native varieties that are being lost.

This event is being held for the first time in La Mejorada park, with the participation of producers from the interior of the State and other communities within the Mérida municipality, and was inaugurated by Ixchel García, head of the Círculo 47 department of the City Hall of the state capital.

At this seed festival, which in previous editions was held at the UADY facilities, you can find everything from seeds of various varieties to native honey products, and derivatives of field products grown on local plots and orchards.
