Starting in May, the awards to the state of Quintana Roo by the Michelin Guide will be granted, in conjunction with the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Foods Industry (Canirac), and the award-winning restaurants will be known.
Marcy Bezaleel Pacheco, national commissioner of Gastronomic Tourism of Canirac, explained that several chefs from restaurants and hotels will be recognized, both in the field of fine cuisine and markets.
She added that in the case of the stars and awards that the Michelin Guide grants, Quintana Roo is the first Mexican state in which not only one restaurant or municipality but the entire state is recognized as a whole, which allows the region to be projected as a single brand in gastronomic tourism.
“Normally what Michelin stars do is recognize a city, say like Tokyo, they don’t say the stars in Japan. Here they say the state of Quintana Roo, so when you are going to talk about Baja California, the only thing you are going to talk about is a municipality that is Los Cabos, but in the case of Quintana Roo, the recognition is for the whole state.
“This is the beauty of the state of Quintana Roo, which is so dynamic that it will be able to be promoted as a whole,” she expressed.
In addition, Bezaleel Pacheco mentioned that this also serves to diversify gastronomy in the state, in addition to the fact that these recognitions help not only the great gastronomic culture but also promote economic development and sustainable practices in this type of business.
Bezaleel Pacheco added that this is a boost in gastronomic tourism for the state. An example is the Caribbean Gastronomic Festival in Puerto Morelos, where they had 5,000 visitors.
Finally, the national commissioner of Gastronomic Tourism of Canirac pointed out that for the fourth edition of this Caribbean Gastronomic Festival, municipalities that seek to be the new headquarters have already begun to emerge, with Tulum being a possibility, thanks to its growth in gastronomic tourism, although it will not be until the next Tourism Fair of Madrid in 2025 when the next venue will be revealed.
