The family of former governor Víctor Cervera Pacheco welcomed Claudia Sheinbaum in Yucatán

The family of the controversial former governor, who for two decades exercised hegemony in Yucatán, abandons the PRI and joins Morena.

“The Cervera family makes public its adherence to Morena and the 4T: dinner with Claudia Sheinbaum.” With that news began the second day of the tour of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition candidate through the state that the controversial former PRI governor Víctor Cervera Pacheco governed, with a heavy hand and in two different terms.

The accession of Víctor and Felipe Cervera Hernández, former PRI members, and sons of the former governor, was formalized at a dinner held on Tuesday, April 16th which was also attended by former olympic diver Rommel Pacheco, Morena’s candidate for mayor of Mérida, and Joaquín Díaz Mena, candidate for state governor.

The dinner was recorded in a photograph taken at the home of Amira Hernández Guerra, widow of Cervera Pacheco, with whom they had dinner to celebrate her 85th birthday.

The reunion took place after the three candidates led a rally in the Plaza de La Paz, in Mérida, a place where, in the late 90s, both the PAN and the PRD demonstrated against the then PRI. Víctor Cervera, managed to govern the state in two different periods and for more than 10 years.

The meeting was not disclosed by Sheinbaum or Pacheco, but it was reported by Víctor Cervera and the candidate for governor of Morena, the former PAN member Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena, who through their social networks confirmed the meeting and the addition to Morena and the 4T, headed by Sheinbaum.

“The first congratulations for my mother on her 85th birthday were from Claudia Sheinbaum, it was a pleasure to receive her at home, she is a woman who, like my mother, has worked and fought all her life and who will soon make history in Mexico. This was an evening that the entire Cervera Hernández family will remember with great affection and admiration,” Víctor Cervera wrote on his social networks.

For months, the eldest of the sons of the former PRI governor had expressed his sympathy for the Fourth Transformation project, although he had not confirmed his adherence to the movement.

His brother, Felipe Cervera, was until a few weeks ago the deputy secretary of the State Steering Committee of the PRI, however, local media reported that he stayed away from proselytizing activities because he did not agree with the alliance that the PRI made with the PAN, a rivality that his father faced for years.

In 2021, Cervera Pacheco was a candidate for the municipal presidency of Mérida for the Movimiento Ciudadano political party, a candidacy that was promoted by his cousin Ivonne Ortega, also a former PRI member and former governor of Yucatán for the PRI.

“We have to do the feat of removing the PAN from the governorship of Yucatán, and for the Fourth Transformation to arrive in this wonderful state with “Huacho” Díaz Mena, who is a hard-working, honest man, who knows his state inch by inch and who loves to his people,” concluded Morena candidate Claudia Sheinbaum.
