Protesters in Campeche try to approach AMLO during his visit to the state

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made an express visit to Campeche to monitor the development of the Maya Train project, a situation that the State Police agents who were holding a demonstration against the head of the police command, Marcela Muñoz Martínez, and her commanders tried to take advantage of; however, these were blocked and were not allowed access to the San Francisco de Campeche Maya Train station.

About 15 police officers stood at the entrance to the terminal, hoping to be attended to by the president of Mexico, who has repeatedly stated that “with the people everything, and without the people nothing,” even though he has expressed his totalsupport to Governor Layda Sansores regarding this issue.

The agents, interviewed outside the terminal, on the road, indicated that someone had misinformed the president of Mexico, and that is why they sought to approach AMLO, to provide him with evidence of what happened in the failed operation, and how it has evolved into a state government crisis. The police officers allegedly have proof of acts of diversion of resources by the state government in matters of security.

The policemen stressed that it is important to seek means of dialogue with all levels of government, and pointed out that in the case of the state government, the request for dismissal of Marcela Muñoz Martínez is unappealable because she is not prepared for the position.

They added that her commanders were abusive, and in the operation, they showed that they did not know where they stood, but they keep blaming the agents and not the commanders. They also state that they will continue their demonstration until they achieve their objective and there are already federal complaints against those accused.

Meanwhile, the state government of Layda Sansores is blaming them, threatening them, and according to testimonies, trying to bribe them to stop the demonstrations.
