Through social media, the case of a boat that until now remains missing was announced. It is the boat “Esperanza”, 25 feet in length and powered by a 60 horsepower Yamaha engine, which left La Caleta last Tuesday, April 16.
The ship was supposed to return to port on Wednesday, April 17, but so far that has not happened.
On Wednesday they would have communicated by radio to report their location, 3-30. It is presumed that the vessel was left without propulsion or fuel.
Until noon this Saturday, there was no news about the sailors who were on the ship.
As they did not return on the expected day, relatives of the fishermen notified the naval authorities, and a search operation was undertaken by sea and air to try to locate the missing ones.
On the night of Thursday the 18th, the Civil Protection unit of the State of Yucatán reported the closure of ports to general navigation in Progreso and Yucalpetén due to strong winds. However, they were reopened shortly before noon on Friday, but during the afternoon of the same day, they were closed again until further notice. Due to the above, the seamen have had to spend difficult days at sea, but the family’s hope of seeing them safe and sound is still latent while the authorities continue the search.
