New book reveals alleged deliveries of drug money to AMLO in 2006

The investigation by journalist Anabel Hernández reveals the alleged relationship between members of the Sinaloa Cartel and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), which would also involve deliveries of cash to finance the presidential campaigns of 2006, 2012, and 2018.

Grupo REFORMA (Mexico City, April 28, 2024) In a new book, Anabel Hernández says that, according to anonymous testimonies, AMLO allegedly received drug money for the 2006 campaign.

Different deliveries of cash by drug lords such as Arturo Beltrán Leyva and Sergio Villarreal, “El Grande”, to the PRD presidential campaign headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in 2006, are referred to by Anabel Hernández in her new book ” The Secret History”.

The work consists of 340 pages and 15 chapters and will begin circulation this week. The extracts are published with authorization from Editorial Grijalbo, and at some point, the book states that in a meeting held by AMLO, accompanied by his then-security manager, Audomaro Martínez, he received a briefcase with money from Villarreal.

The statements come from anonymous witnesses that Anabel Hernández identifies as members of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The author claims, according to anonymous testimony, that AMLO held that meeting with “El Grande” in a hotel in Gómez Palacio, Durango, and there they gave him money in a suitcase. “The meeting was at the discreet ‘El Campestre’ hotel, located at Boulevard Miguel Alemán 251, Las Rosas, in Gómez Palacio, in the same perimeter where the campaign closing had been held, given that the cities of Torreón and Gómez Palace are separated by just one street.

“(‘El Grande’) entered the room carrying a suitcase containing half a million US dollars. The space was small and austere, with just a couple of beds.

“Pancho León made the presentations, and he and AMLO thanked “El Grande” for his support, ‘everyone was excited and grateful,’ declared T5 (as the anonymous informant is identified by the author) in the interview conducted to reconstruct the facts for this journalistic investigation.

“The attendees sat on the edge of the beds and exchanged a few more words. There were no armchairs. ‘El Grande’ said that his compadre, Arturo (Beltrán), sent a gift, that he hoped everything would go well in the elections, and then he handed the suitcase with money to López Obrador, who thanked him for his support and passed the suitcase to General Audomaro.

‘Thank you very much,’ said AMLO, ‘send my regards to El Señor.’
