Forced by the remodeling work in the Plaza Grande, merchants from the “Mérida on Sunday” program set up shop on Sunday, April 21, for the first time in the Santa Ana park, where in the first hours a small influx of tourists was noticed.
Some merchants attributed this to the fact that many people do not know that they would settle in that place, to the heat, and to the fact that it is the payday is a week ago for most people.
However, most are confident that things will improve in the evening when the sun sets and encourages people to go out. They also hope that it will be better in the coming weekends when they get used to the fact that “Mérida en Domingo” is momentarily in that park.
Some of the merchants began to set up shop in the Santa Ana park at 5 in the morning, although others arrived a little later.
Merchants of marquesitas, elotes (corn cobs), and ice cream suggested to the authorities that they “lengthen” the passage of the Bici Ruta so that it reaches the Santa Ana park and the temporary headquarters of “Mérida on Sunday” becomes better known.
On the esplanade of the park, the shows that were offered in the Plaza Grande will be presented, while around there are the artisans, next to the church is the food area and on one side of 60th Street there were vendors of marquesitas, churros, esquites and ice creams.
The hours of “Mérida en Domingo” will continue to be from 10 in the morning to 9 at night. There are park supervisors at all times verifying that everything is in order.
