A former truck driver known by the nickname “Ventanas” was found dead on the Progreso International Boardwalk on Saturday, April 14th.

Tourists who were visiting that area got a macabre surprise after discovering the lifeless body of the homeless man, who frequently moved around in a wheelchair through the central area of that port.

The discovery took place near 88th Street, an area popular with tourists and locals for recreational walks.

Initially, some passersby thought the man might be drunk, however, a tourist from Mérida soon realized that the individual showed no signs of breathing, and immediately called the police.

The deceased used a wheelchair to get around because he did not like to stay in his house and preferred to spend the nights on the streets of the port.

He was known by many people in the municipality by his nickname “Ventanas,” as he used to be an active truck driver, a job he left for health reasons.

Despite the prompt arrival of paramedics, the man had already died, and a sudden heart attack was indicated as the probable cause of death.

Agents of the Coordinated Municipal Police and the Public Security Secretariat arrived to secure the area and to remove the body.
