Local businessman kidnapped and executed in Chetumal, Quintana Roo

The bagged body of businessman Jonathan Barragán was found on Bahía de Chetumal Boulevard inside a plastic bag.

Barragán had been reported as kidnapped since Thursday, April 25th, when he was kidnapped in the community of Calderitas, a few kilometers from Chetumal.

During the early hours of Saturday, April 27, citizens passing through the area in front of the University of Quintana Roo (UQRoo) made a macabre discovery: a bagged body along with a threatening message.

Authorities received the report around 4:30 a.m. and they quickly moved to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the body wrapped in bags and six shell casings at the crime scene. The area was cordoned off to carry out the corresponding procedures.

Hours later, around noon, the authorities announced in a statement that the body corresponded to that of a businessman who was reported kidnapped on April 25.

The message suggested that Barragán was executed because of his business relationship with an individual known as “Che Che.”

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo indicated that the first investigations suggest that this event could be related to drug trafficking.

Once the legal autopsy is completed and the administrative procedures are completed, the businessman’s body will be delivered to his family so that they can carry out the corresponding funeral rites.
