More than 1,800 people from 32 organizations will march down the streets of Downtown Merida on Wednesday, May 1st, to commemorate International Workers’ Day, in addition to raising their voices on the problems and concerns of the labor sector in Yucatán.
Leaving Santiago Park at 8:00 a.m. towards the Government Palace, the workers will march through the streets of the city center to call on authorities and businessmen from various sectors to promote good practices in work environments and to cover the historical debt owed to the workers not only of the entity but of the entire country.
“We are marching to express our concern on the different issues that affect our country because although actions have been taken in recent years, there is still a long way to go in terms of labor rights,” the representatives of the 32 organizations said in a press conference.
After the march, a rally will be held in front of the Government Palace, where a list of demands will be read, such as having the initiatives to reduce the working day to 40 hours and increase workers’ bonuses, continue with the reform proposal to Infonavit that seeks to finance rental housing for low-income people, seeking financial autonomy for the institute by reducing the requirements to meet to access a line of credit, monitoring of the initiative to establish the pension institute for well-being, among others.
