The president of the Hotel and Hostel Association in Valladolid, Héctor Bustos Sosa, said that hotel occupancy last weekend was 75%. However, lodging center owners stated that some managed to reach 90%.
Last week, the leader indicated that around 80% occupancy was expected, but according to the data he provided yesterday, Monday, he stressed the percentage was lower due to the unfair competition that was detected with the rooms that were offered through the Airbnb platform, which promoted various discounts.
The days were Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with an average of 75%.
Despite the good occupancy rate, hoteliers stated that they did not have the same income levels as in previous years, since there was a price war with establishments that offered their rooms with discounts of up to 40% to increase their rate of occupation.
Hotel owners are concerned about the excess of offers of accommodation with low, non-regularized prices such as Airbnb, which are between 500 rooms.
The majority of their owners do not pay taxes and do not generate jobs, because they are in charge of maintaining the spaces they rent.
Some hoteliers in the center, whose businesses are small, managed to obtain around 90% occupancy.
Noé Rodríguez Cervera, former leader of the hoteliers, stated that the Pueblo Mágico has approximately 1,600 rooms, which means that in the first days of last week, there was an average occupancy of 1,040 occupied rooms. For Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it rose to 1,200, which represents 75%.
However, Monday, April 1, dawned with 60% occupancy, which means that there were around 1,000 rooms occupied, but over this week they will be vacated. Next weekend there could be a rebound, given that many families from Mérida, Campeche, and Quintana Roo will go on vacation, contrary to those from other cities in the country who would return to their places of origin.
