Death toll in the explosion on the Akal platform in Campeche goes up to two

The two workers killed in the explosion of the Akal Bravo platform, in Campeche, were employees of COTER.

The second worker of the COTER oil company, Emmanuel Arévalo Xiu, died, a victim of the explosion and fire that occurred on Saturday on the Akal Bravo platform, in the Campeche Sound. The first fatality was Julio César Rojas Pintor, also an employee of COTER.

According to figures from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), 14 workers were affected in the explosion of the Akal-B Platform, which belongs to the Cantarell Production Asset in the Campeche Sound, where the fire occurred on Saturday at 5 pm.

What happened on Pemex’s Akal platform?

On Saturday, an explosion was recorded on the Akal-B marine platform, located in the Campeche Sound. The explosion left 14 workers affected, of which five had first and second degree burns, two were serious; two stable with minor injuries and the rest were discharged.

Three other workers belong to the DIAVAZ company, who after being evaluated at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) hospital, were discharged.

While from the COTER company, “one worker was evaluated at the Social Security hospital and discharged; three workers with first and second degree burn injuries are hospitalized in the same institution in stable health condition; one worker hospitalized in serious health condition; and, unfortunately, one worker died” Pemex reported yesterday, but today the figure was updated to two.

The deceased had been treated at the Zone 4 Hospital of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), in Ciudad del Carmen. And, a worker was transferred to Mexico City due to the severity of his injuries.
