A routine inspection by the National Guard detected that a bus traveling to Cancun from Playa del Carmen was carrying 70 undocumented people, including men, women, and children.
On the evening of Saturday, April 6th, members of the National Guard patrolling the federal highway spotted a bus coming from Playa del Carmen bound for Leona Vicario, which they stopped for a routine inspection.
However, when carrying out the first checks, the agents detected that citizens of various nationalities were traveling on the bus.
The agents immediately detained the driver of the vehicle to examine the passengers’ documentation. Unable to prove the legality of their stay in the country, the foreigners were escorted by the National Guard to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
The National Migration Institute will be in charge of continuing with the corresponding procedures concerning the alleged illegal immigrants detention.
Just last March 30, authorities managed to rescue foreigners who were allegedly deprived of their liberty.
Municipal Public Security agents carried out the humanitarian rescue of 81 migrants (40 men, 25 women, and 16 minors) of Honduran, Nicaraguan, Guatemalan, and Salvadoran nationalities.
The operation was carried out at the ranch known as ‘El Faro’, in the Leona Vicario community, municipality of Puerto Morelos; where no detainees were reported.
