A mentally ill man attacked a Canadian woman with an ax in Downtown Mérida

A man used an ax to attack a woman in the neck when she was walking in the Historic Center of Mérida.

A woman allegedly of foreign origin was attacked by a subject, who used an ax to wound her neck in broad daylight in the middle of the streets of the Historic Center of Mérida.

The events occurred on 60th Street in the Center of Mérida, right on the corner of the Plaza Grande, where a subject (apparently, for no reason), seriously injured a woman.

The 25-year-old Canadian tourist was enjoying her vacation in Mérida when the attacker smashed her in the head with an ax that he allegedly stole from construction workers nearby.

Immediately, witnesses moved to arrest the man, requesting the presence of paramedics to treat the woman, who had severe bleeding, for which she was taken to the hospital.

Agents of the Municipal Police of Mérida quickly detained the subject, who was approached by the patrol to be taken to the headquarters.

The attacker identified himself as Eliazer “N”, from Tabasco, and simultaneously uttered incoherencies, pointing out that he attacked the tourist “without intentions and that the CIA had brought him to Mérida.”
