Yucatecan football player is expelled from her team for animal cruelty

A Yucatecan American football player was expelled from the “Rangers Mérida” team for committing animal abuse, by letting her pet die of starvation.

In a statement dated Friday, March 1, and spread on social media, the team established its position of “repudiation of any behavior that involves animal abuse” because it goes against the values they instill.

They also ratified their commitment to “maintain a respectful and ethical environment in all aspects on and off the field” by all the people who make up the team.

The player identified as Guadalupe H. C. left her dog without food in her home located in Ciudad Caucel in Mérida, and that was what finally caused its death.

Unofficially, it was learned that the team’s board expelled its now-former player because she let her dog die of hunger and thirst, but she already had a history of frequently evading her responsibility towards them.

The neighbors reported that this was not the first time, since he frequently abandoned his pets to their fate: “she left and did not leave food and water.”

It is presumed that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) will initiate an investigation to understand the issue in-depth and determine whether it is one or several animals that died of starvation.

Neighbors commented that personnel from the State Investigation Police (PEI) arrived at the property and were in the house to collect evidence.

Animal abuse or cruelty is classified in Article 409 of the Yucatan Penal Code.
