Undocumented immigrants go job hunting in Valladolid, Yucatán

After the discovery of the attempted passage of migrants to Cancun, the National Migration Institute (INM) alerted the business sector in Valladolid not to hire undocumented foreigners, since that organization has granted work visas to a good number of them who are now scattered in several parts of the country, including this Yucatecan city.

A few days ago, state police detected in a police control center operating two buses carrying 155 migrants heading to Cancun.

On February 8, at the same point, a van was detected transporting 17 undocumented immigrants. The foreigners bribed several police officers, but one of them reported the incident to his superiors, which led to the arrest of at least five state agents.

Gerardo Vidal Cruz, president of the Canaco delegation, considered that in Valladolid there were about 150 Venezuelans who somehow managed to reach this city.

However, the majority of them have their respective work visas granted by the National Immigration Institute, so they cannot be considered undocumented, and they can work in local companies.

However, he stated that the presence of Venezuelans who do not have work visas has been detected, so the INM alerted businessmen to be vigilant and not hire them, on the contrary, report them to the Institute to take action on the matter.

One of the business leaders commented that he knows of at least two or three cases of undocumented immigrants and the immigration authorities were notified, however, he considered that these people are doing the work that the locals do not want to do since many Yucatecans prefer to migrate to Quintana Roo looking for better employment opportunities in the Tourism sector.
