Early this Sunday, March 24th, in the city of Cancun, an Uber driver suffered a violent armed attack while leaving the Paraíso motel after picking up two female passengers.
Everything indicates that it was an attempted robbery since the attackers were seeking to seize his truck. Minutes before 2:00 a.m., shots were reported near the Paraíso motel, in an area next to José López Portillo Avenue, in front of the 64th Military Battalion.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the driver of a red Baic truck, with license plate number UVN-078-J from Quintana Roo, seriously injured by multiple gunshots. Medical assistance was requested immediately.
According to unofficial reports, two women had requested an Uber service. When they left the Paraíso motel and got into the vehicle, two armed individuals on a motorcycle intercepted them and opened fire at least ten times.
The driver, despite his serious injuries, informed the police that the attackers tried to steal his truck. When he resisted, they shot him several times and then fled down a nearby road.
A Red Cross ambulance arrived at the scene after almost an hour and paramedics took the injured man to the General Hospital, where he is in serious condition.
The two passengers were arrested as witnesses to the assault and remained in the custody of the State Attorney General’s Office for the corresponding legal procedures.
