To commemorate 183 years since the first time our distinctive symbol as an entity was raised on March 16, 1841, keeping alive our cultural heritage and the history of the Yucatecan people, the flag of Yucatán flew again, on the monumental flagpole of the departure to Progreso.
The raising of the Yucatecan flag, which measures 24.5 meters long by 15 meters wide, was carried out this morning by around 34 State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) agents.
It is worth remembering that last year, for the first time since 1841, the Yucatan flag flew again, along with the flag of Mexico, in an act led by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.
The Yucatan flag is divided into two canvases: on the left, one green, and on the right, another with three divisions, red at the top and bottom, and white in the middle. On the green canvas, five stars represent the five departments into which Yucatán was divided by the November 30, 1840 decree. The districts back then were Mérida, Izamal, Valladolid, Tekax and Campeche.
