Stray cat bit a man who died of rabies in Cancún, Quintana Roo

CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO.- A 67-year-old man who USED TO rescue cats from the streets died of rabies in Cancun, confirmed the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE).

The man, who was dedicated to rescuing street cats, died of rabies last month, on February 11, 2024.

Stray cat bit man who ended up dying of rabies

According to the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control (Cenaprece), on January 4, the patient was bitten by an unvaccinated cat on the right arm, and he ended up dying of rabies on February 11, 2024.

Before dying, the patient presented a non-specific clinical picture with general discomfort and pain at the site of the bite, receiving only wound care from the Red Cross and later in other private clinics.

However, his health condition became complicated and he was admitted to an IMSS clinic with respiratory symptoms and pain in the affected arm, dying on February 11.
