On Wednesday March 20th, around 1 in the afternoon, a large mobilization of vehicles and security personnel took place around the United States Consulate in Mérida.

State authorities reported that a simulated “terrorist bomb” was carried out inside the building occupied by the US Consulate.

60th Street, from the intersection with Cupules Avenue and to Deportista Avenue, remained closed to vehicular circulation and pedestrian crossing.

Agents from the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Ministry of Public Security, as well as state Civil Protection personnel, attended the scene. As part of the drill, the personnel working in the consular building were evacuated from the facilities to carry out the corresponding maneuvers to deactivate and dislodge the “explosive device.”
